Over the past 12-18 months we have seen a real explosion in demand for Paid Media talent. Here at Creative Resource, we think paid media is a great career for maths graduates. Both agencies and brands are really ramping up their Paid Media teams and we have clients asking for help finding people for these roles on a weekly basis.
What is paid media?
The term ‘paid media’ refers to any external marketing which utilises paid placements to increase traffic, awareness sales and conversions. This can include pay per click advertising, affiliates, display advertising and social media advertising.
Something we have noticed over this time, is Paid Media isn’t necessarily one of the most attractive roles to Marketing Graduates. So why is this? It’s perhaps not as creative a role as they are looking for as it is very analytical and whilst they may enjoy an element of this in their roles, they aren’t often open to a role which is majority analytics.
So why is paid media a great career for Maths Graduates?
Maths and Science Graduates are a real untapped resource for Paid Media.
Lately we have seen a few good candidates from these educational backgrounds who have slotted beautifully into Paid Media roles.
There is work the Creative and Marketing industry needs to do to explain to lecturers and students in those fields of education, what an opportunity Paid Media is for them.
Certainly with the skills shortage we have in Paid Media currently and the growth we are forecast to see, this is a real fast track career option. We believe if you can get into this area and perform well, you can go far quickly. Paid media involves working closely with data and analytics and understanding or forecasting trends with figures. There are of course opportunities to grow creatively but a solid mathematical or scientific skillset, in which you’re able to analyse data daily and enjoy it will allow you space to grow within a really interesting field.
