Two+Two 2019 – Talking Organ Donation

Two+Two this year was exhilarating and intense, with an inspiring brief to get people talking about their wishes to be an organ donor.  Over 150 students from Universities across the North formed 30 competing teams and we had 48 mentors, leaders and judges from 20 agencies helping them.

There were so many brilliant ideas and some tough decisions for the Leaders and Judges.  This year’s judging panel was filled with Northern expertise and Chaired by Tom Richards, Cannes Lions Winning CCO of Havas Lynx; Monica Tailor, Head of Digital at McCann Manchester; Julian Gratton, Group CD of APS Group; Kieran Edwards, Director of Content Agency of the Year, Shoot the Moon; Simon Landi, MD of Access and Roydon Turner, CD and Trustee of our Charity Partner Live Life Give Life.  Five finalists were chosen and presented five incredible ideas to the judging panel and their peers and it was a tough call indeed to choose the Bronze, Silver and Gold Award Winners.

The winning team, the Blue Horses, produced a fantastic response to the brief.  Lewis Connor from Edge Hill, Brando Li from UCLAN, Amira Barway from Leeds Uni and Emmanuel Afambu and Naveen Kirby from MMU will now work on placement with Havas Lynx to help make the brief go live for Live Life Give Life.  We’ll keep their winning idea under wraps for now, watch this space!

Without the immense help of Manchester’s creative community, we couldn’t begin to put on this event.  Everyone gave their time freely and there is such passion for helping the next generation of young creatives and marketers. Mentors and Leaders took time out of their busy diaries to be there, working alongside one another – competitors in the field, collaborators here.

Julian Gratton and the APS Group provided extensive practical support including print and videography support, producing promotional showreels pre-event and for the event itself, a team of 2 videographers for video and stills and on the spot editing.

Havas Lynx provided full IT support and equipment for the day, along with extensive organ donation research and are hosting the winning team to help make the brief go live. Not many students get this kind of opportunity, not just winning a live brief competition but working with a Cannes Lions winning creative agency. They also provided several creative, planning and talent mentors

McCann Manchester provided financial support and the help of their Learning and Development Director, Lisa Jones, to produce a key takeaway for the students to use post event.

Shoot the Moon provided a great content plan and assets – student applications were up 30%.

Fourth Day PR provided PR support pre and post event. Fingers crossed for some organ donation coverage.

Freelance Account Director, Candace Shaw, worked with us writing the brief, speaking with our charity partner and then spending two days lugging equipment around and setting up and derigging the event.

Lynsey Hulme, event consultant extraordinaire, helped hugely with organisation and ran the event on the day, calmness itself. If you need any production help in film/video content she is your woman!

Roydon Turner, Trustee and CD of Live Life Give Life agreed to be our charity partner and helped us understand what the brief needed to ask. Tons of emails and phone calls later he spent a very long day inspiring and helping the students.

The Creative Resourcers – an amazing team who worked like trojans before, during and after the event making sure our day jobs were done as well as pulling together what really is a mammoth task.
