Creative Resource wins prestigious Creative Specialist award at the Marketing and Digital Recruitment Awards

We were so proud to come away winners at the Marketing and Digital Recruitment awards held at Hilton London Bankside on Thursday 22nd November.  More than 700 companies were invited to enter the only recruitment awards dedicated to the marketing, advertising, creative and digital sectors and recognise recruitment firms who have displayed unparalleled excellence.

In making us winner of the Creative Specialist category, the judges commented that Creative Resource had demonstrated “A clearly defined business strategy, aligned to client and candidate needs, added to a rich understanding and involvement in the creative talent discipline.”

Creative Resource is embedded in the creative community.  There is a recognised skills gap between the graduate’s universities are producing and the needs of the industry.   We believe that we have a strong obligation to give back to the industry we passionately recruit for.  A pay it forward philosophy that goes to the heart of our business strategy and ethos.  Our award submission explained what we are doing:

Two very marked examples of this are School of Thought and the Two+Two Collaboration Day:

School of Thought –

A close relationship with one of our clients developed into a first for the Manchester creative industry.  When the CD arrived in Manchester, they were surprised at the lack of conceptual talent being developed; universities producing graduates unable to come up with the big ideas and agencies struggling to turn their new talent into creative thinkers.  From this School of Thought was born. A not for profit set up by David Campbell, our client, and Phil Cookson, Director of Creative Resource. It’s first year was sponsored entirely by Creative Resource and we continue to be one of the primary sponsors.  Phil and David give much of their free time to run the programmes, in conjunction with senior creatives from award-winning agencies such as Love, Havas Lynx, BBC Creative.

School of Thought has run 7 events in the last 12 months which over 600 people from the industry have attended in total, representing over 75 agencies:

3 debates (Data and Creativity, Gender in the Creative Industry and The Value of Awards)

1 professional training programme: an intensive 12-week course and creative competition for people working in the creative industry who want to develop idea generation skills. The winner receives a trip to Cannes Lions.

1 graduate training programme: an intensive 6-week programme similar to our main programme. The winner received 3 months of placements at MMP Global, The BBC and Zeal Creative, the latter hired them.

1 summer BBQ for the creative industry to get together and network.

1 Super Skills Weekend training creatives in softer skills such as: handling stress and resilience; finding insights; what clients really want; how to understand account handlers and presentation skills.

It’s fun, frantic and every creative who has completed School of Thought has improved massively. Those completing the professional programme have gone back into their agencies and made a greater impact.  Testimonials:

The programme continues in 2019.

Two+Two Collaboration Day

60 mentors from 30 different agencies, 120 marketing, digital and creative students from 6 Northern Uni’s + a great social cause = Two+Two.

Manchester’s creative marketing community is thriving, and employers and universities are keen to bridge the gap between the real world of work and what students learn whilst studying. Two+Two was set up by Creative Resource to help do just that.  Students, brands and agencies worked side by side for the day and networked once the hard work of the day was over. Placements were offered as part of the winning prizes, but more than that relationships were forged: potential employers and students made connections which for some were turned into internships and employment. All whilst tackling the endemic problem of Youth Loneliness #BeLessLonely #YellowThere

We invested rather a lot of money and a huge amount of man hours to organise and run this event and all the contributors freely gave their time. For more info and the full list of contributors see

Planning is already well under way for Two+Two 2019!

Julie Ollerton, MD of Creative Resource commented “I’m so very proud of the Creative Resource team and winning Creative Specialist at the Marketing and Digital Recruitment Awards last week made me even more so. I long ago stopped feeling bruised by people making assumptions about me and my business because I’m a recruiter. People that know me and Creative Resource know that we are passionate about the industry we feel privileged to recruit for and do as much as we can to give back. So, this award is not just for the team here at Creative Resource, it’s for all the clients, candidates and students who have trusted us and worked with us over the last 28 years. It’s been a blast and a privilege!! (No, I’m not retiring!!)”
